At the 1930 Mille Miglia.

Specifically Achille Varzi's Alfa Romeo 6C. Varzi held first place for the last length of the race until in the pre-dawn darkness teammate and rival Tazio Nuvolari came up from behind with his Alfa 6C's headlights off and passed Varzi on the last long straight. Varzi was furious, as he was told for the past 100 miles that he was well in the lead and had backed off his pace (either because no one could see Nuvolari's car or owner Vittorio Jano didn't want his cars thrashed by the two rival drivers). Nuvolari set a new 100kph record after he won, beating Varzi by 10 minutes and 52 seconds. The race was a 1-2-3-4 victory for Alfa Romeo.
